CAUTION: Some worksheets contains macros. If you have macro protection in Excel turned on the macro will not load. I recommend you use the Tools -> Macro ->Security command to set the security level to "medium". This way Excel will ask you if you wish to load the macros.
- Probability for coin toss. Workbook reproduces trial of 50 coin tosses and accumulates a binomial distribution (see Davis Figure 2.8, p. 25). The growing binomial distribution is compared with the expected normal distribution.
- Normal Distribution Plots. Workbook showing how to generate normal distribution curves given a mean and standard deviation. Workbook provides a graphical method for comparing data.
- Central Limit Theorem. Workbook draws random samples from a population and shows distribution of sample means. The population is not normal, and the sample mean population is more normal looking.
- Statistical tables. Workbook to calculate statistical tables of critical values for t-, F, and c2 tests. Cells on the worksheets let you specify the degrees of freedom and confidence level. This allows you calculate specific values you may not find in a statistical table.
- Statistical Distributions. Plots the various statistical function -- a work in progress!
- Eigenvalue Macro in a Workbook. Excel macro to calculate the Eigenvalues/Eigenvectors of Symmetric Matrices. Used for Q & R factor analysis (principle component analysis).
- Eigenvalue Macro as VisualBASIC code. Excel macro to calculate the Eigenvalues/Eigenvectors of Symmetric Matrices. Used for Q & R factor analysis (principle component analysis). This version is the VisualBASIC code. It may be easier to import into Excel97 in this form. You also do not need to worry about downloading a worksheet that contains macros (a possible security problem).

- Principle Components - Example 2. Example of principle component analysis. From Davis p. 524.
- Root finding. A simple interactive worksheet to plot a function and allow you to zoom in on the roots of the function. Useful in eigenvalue problems.
- Cubic Splines (HTML or PDF). Derivation of cubic spline and how to lay out a matrix to solve for splines.
- Least Squares (HTML or PDF). Derivation of general least-squares solution. Solution is in matrix form and can performed using Excel's matrix functions.
- Cosine Waveforms. Excel spreadsheet showing effect of parameters such as phase angle, amplitude and wavelength. This will help you visualize what the various terms in a Fourier Series are doing. You can also test the relation between A cos(q-f) and a cos(q) + b sin(q).
- Chaos and Fractals. A simple worksheet demonstrating the chaotic nature of the equation yi+1 = x yi (1-yi).
